New Girl On The Block - JK Customs!

Helllooooooo my loves!

I am so excited to show you a trio of brand new beauties from a brand new indie - JK Customs!

6yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyhhhhhhyttttttttttth <--- Roxy says, "Hi!" evidently...

Anyway, Jen Koontz of JK Customs has been making polish for herself and friends since last year, but just recently made the jump into the indie market when her custom creations took off! Her debut line includes 5 polishes: Tears of Gaia, Beg For Mercy, Vernal Equinox, Ice Queen and my personal favorite, Cupid's Eros!

Disclaimer: Some of the products in this review were sent to me for an honest review.

Up first we have Ice Queen. Ice Queen is a gorgeous icy glitter topper with lilac (light purple) hexes, and a mix of blue iridescent and holo hexes and squares in a clear base. I couldn't decide how I liked it better so I'm including a couple options. This is 2 coats of Ice Queen over China Glaze 'Aquadelic'.

Here's another shot of 2 coats of Ice Queen over Sinful Colors 'Ciao Bella'.

Next is Vernal Equinox. Vernal Equinox is another word for Spring Equinox and this polish definitely conjures thoughts of spring. A mix of yellow, aqua and white glitters are suspended in a clear base with pastel purple stars. This would be a great polish for Easter! Here is 2 coats of Vernal Equinox over Sinful Colors '24/7'. This one does require a little bit of dabbing to get good coverage.

Last but not least is my personal favorite of JK Customs debut line; Cupid's Eros. Cupids Eros is a gorgeous blend of PINK glitters in a clear base. Seriously, its pink glitter overload and I loves it. LOL This is 2 coats of Cupids Eros over Sinful Colors 'Cotton Candy'. I LOVE the glitz of this one!

JK Custom polishes are available on her Facebook page, and in her brand spankin' new storenvy shop which is still somewhat under construction. Polishes retail for $7 each and the price includes shipping - how cool is that? You can also enter to win a full sized bottle of Tears of Gaia in my birthdanniversary giveaway going on now!

So what do you think? Any must haves for you?

**Authors note: I really just had to add this for myself. The world lost a wonderful, promising young actor this weekend. Cory Monteith, better known as Finn from the Fox hit 'Glee' passed away in his hotel room in Vancouver. I feel a little silly admitting that the passing of this stranger has affected me, but I am a HUGE Gleek so this one kinda hit me hard. Sad. Sending thoughts and love to his family and friends who are certainly devastated by this tragic news.**

365 Days Of Color - Spring Has Sprung

I am SO excited to bring you all the first "pretty" in what is sure to be a fantastic collection from 365 Days of Color: 12 Months Of Color!

Each month for the next 12 months, Sunny at 365 Days of Color will release a limited edition polish that will only be available for that month. April's beauty is Spring Has Sprung!

Spring Has Sprung is a fun, blingy glitter topper with silver micro glitters, holo silver squares, and different sized light pink, hot pink and teal matte glitters. I swatched Spring Has Sprung over a variety of spring inspired colors (mostly pastels) and it looked fantastic over pretty much all of them. A+ for versatility! It also applied like a DREAM! No placement needed at all. All of the glitters stuck exactly where I brushed them, so A+ for formula too!

This is 1 coat of Spring Has Sprung over 2 coats of Sinful Colors 'Sugar Rush'

Spring Has Sprung will be available at 365daysofcolorpolishes.com on Friday, April 19th through Sunday, April 21st. 365 Days of Color restocks on the first and third Friday of each month.

And DO NOT forget to check out her unbelievable variety of cuticle balms, oils, and hand creams! I 100% recommend Sunny's Miracle Balm in Pink Sugar! The samplers are the perfect size for your purse, they smell amazing, are non-greasy, and are super nourishing for your cuticles. I was fortunate enough to receive a couple for Christmas and I am HOOKED!

My First Enchanted Polish!

AMIGAD I'm not even going to lie, I happy danced around my living room when the order went through on her last restock. Not only did I snag my first Enchanted Polish, but I snagged the CARE BEAR INSPIRED beauty 'Freeze Machine'! For pretty much my whole life my nickname has been Carebear (or just 'Bear' as my dad calls me), and as a kid I had every single Care Bear plush toy, movie, bed sheet set, figurine, etc. you could buy. I'm an only child, I may have been spoiled...maybe.

I can't even describe this polish. Its a glitter bomb of awesome! There are hexes, squares, shreds, micro bars, micro glitter...I swear the clouds parted, the sun shone, and angels sang hymns when I opened this bottle....

Anyway, I won't drone on and on. This is going to be a super pic heavy post because I couldn't decide on undies for Freeze Machine. This is ONE COAT of 'Freeze Machine' over Butter London 'Royal Navy' and Sinful Colors 'Ardoise'.

I'm so Knackered

knack·ered adjective \ˈna-kərd\
Definition of KNACKERED
British
: tired, exhausted
Examples of KNACKERED: "She was too knackered to paint her nails tonight."

^^ LOL! Its true. I am coming down with a cold or something again and pretty much passed out as soon as I got home from work. But, I'm awake and I really wanted to get something up on the blog tonight. I have a bunch of posts lined up, just have to find the time to edit the photos. I will make the time this weekend...hopefully. ;)

Knackered was one of those polishes that I was sure I was going to dislike. Google image swatches were unable to make up my mind for me because they are all so different. Some people put it over black, some over white, some layer it and layer it until its opaque....I actually bought it and then returned it before I even opened it, and as soon as I returned it I regretted it. I should have tried it. Blah. A month or so later, Melissa from Pinked Polish offered up a few items she wanted to purge from her stash so I snagged Knackered. YAY! Thanks Melissa!

It's absolutely gorgeous in the bottle and I was tempted to just let it shine in all its glory, but I don't have a lot of patience for layering relatively sheer polishes over and over until they're opaque so I went 'undie hunting'.

This is 2 coats of Butter London 'Knackered' over Sinful Colors 'Winterberry'... (Click each image to enlarge)

Overall, I really liked it, and lots of other people did too. I got a number of "Oh I love that color! What is it?" at work. Knackered shifts from kind of a silvery pinky purple to a really pretty green. It's definitely a different color for me, but it worked well with my skin tone and I will definitely reach for it again. Thanks for reading :)

You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch

You're a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.
Mr. Grinch.

Fun Fact #1: 'You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch' was not sung by the amazing James Earl Jones (common misconception by 'younger generations' evidently), but instead was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft who is also the original voice of Tony the Tiger.

Fun Fact #2: The original Grinch from the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" which was published in 1957 (same year mah momma was born) was black and white. He 'became green' in the cartoon adaptation in 1966.

Fun Fact #3: His dog Max is listed as 'a mixed breed' and was voiced by Dallas McKennon who lent his vocal talents to movies such as 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, and Mary Poppins (among others). Perhaps my favorite Dallas McKennon 'vocal performance' is the safety spiel at Disney's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (which was out of commission when I last visited the park...GRR)

I LOVED the movie 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' when I was a little kid. I always felt SO awful for him because he hated Christmas so much, and I loved it. Still love it. So when JindieNails released her holiday collections I saw Grinch and had to have it. Here's how Jen describes Grinch:
This is my interpretation of Dr. Seuss's The Grinch Christmas story, in a bottle. I originally had the polish without the red hearts but after a Facebook poll, I have decided to add just a few red hearts to the batch and ONE single black heart in each bottle. The black heart represents the Grinch's evil heart and the red ones represent the heart he eventually grew.
I will fully admit that it was the single black heart that got me. I vaguely remember sitting on the sofa next to my fiance when I read the description and gleefully squealing "AMIGAD IT HAS ONE. BLACK. HEART. THATS SO COOL!" Thankfully Jen took pity on me and sent me a little baggie with a few extra hearts in it so I didn't have to fish around for the one in the bottle for the next 10 years. You rock girlfriend. Srsly.

This is 2 thin coats of JindieNails Grinch over Sinful Colors Innocent. There were no application issues, no finishing necessary, dab it on, smooth it out. I was unable to fish any of the red hearts out, but there are only a few to begin with so no biggie. I added the black hearts with a toothpick and finished with 2 coats of HK Girl Fast Dry Top Coat. Its a bit more green here than it is in the bottle, but I like it :)

As always you can click to make these larger.

You can find JindieNails and all of her gorgeous creations on Facebook, and in her Etsy store (which is in vacation mode at the time of this posting - sign up to be notified when she comes back). Full sized bottles are $8.00. * Disclaimer: None, I bought this polish with my own money :)

TL;DR
- You're a mean one...if you didn't read this post.
- Santy is bringing you coal for skipping to the TEAL DEER FIRST!
- Because I know you're humming it...You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch
- Thanks for all the LOVE this week guys! It's been one hell of a ride :)
